Our little garden

One of our goals for the year is to live a healthier lifestyle. So far this has been totally up and down, with some weeks doing good, and other weeks being absolute failures not as good. The plan was to cook most meals at home, which hasn’t worked so well, and to exercise.

Our landlords own some land just across the street from our apartment that they provided for a community garden. We got it all planted several weeks ago. It still needs some stakes and tomato cages, but otherwise it is all done. These pictures are from several weeks ago, so there should be some new ones up soon, just a soon as we get it all weeded and put our signs up.

This is the view of the whole garden, which has about 20 plots. You can seek our little flowers towards the top left.

Just after planting. We have, from front to back, carrots, onions, pumpkins, watermelon, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, and Gerber daisies.

Our lettuce and peppers. The left has iceberg lettuce, and the right is romaine. The iceberg is still really wilty, so we might not get anything this year.

Aaron bought the flowers, and tried to buy a whole flat, but I limited him to 4.

The city help provide rain barrels, which so far have been sufficient, and it rained again today. But we will probably be out by the end of the summer.

The area is so pretty, and several people have put up benches or chairs. Our garden is one of my favorite things about Alabama so far. Thanks for reading,
Tommie
